Joseph F. Bononno, 64, passed away on July 16, 2024, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Borst) Bononno. They shared wonderful years together.
Born in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna Marie (Tay) Bononno. Joseph graduated from Westmont Hilltop High School in 1978, and attended Allentown College for Communications and English. He held various positions in the HVAC and maintenance industry.
Joseph was a devout member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish for many years. A man of faith, his church was an integral part of his life and furthered his Catholic beliefs by holding membership with the Knights of Columbus Light of Christ Council, and attained Sir Knights status as a 4th degree member with Saint Pius the 9th Assembly, both of which he held various offices of leadership. Joseph was a devoted member of the Color Guard. He loved attending the KOC events, especially the breakfasts, picnics, and golf outings. He enjoyed basketball, playing in college and as an adult, attending concerts, and going for rides on his motorcycle. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. Above all, Joseph loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his zest for life, sense of humor, positive attitude, and the joy he found in spending time
with his grandchildren whom he adored.
In addition, his wife, those cherishing Joseph's memory are his sons: Tyler Bononno, husband of Samantha, and Austin Bononno, husband of Grace, and former spouse and mother of his children, Denise (Tomasi) Bononno; his grandchildren: Landon Bononno, Aiden Bononno, Reagan Bononno, and Sadie Bononno; nieces and nephews: Amanda (Bononno) Poe, Olivia Bononno, Andrew Bononno, Eric Elliott, Allison Elliott, and Annie Elliott; as well as his siblings, Susan Bononno-O'Neil, wife of Peter O'Neil, and John Bononno.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 27 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church 2600 St. Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609. A viewing will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Private burial for family to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery 701 Upland Ave, Reading, PA 19607. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Fox Chase Cancer Center in Joseph's honor at https://www.foxchase.org/. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve the Bononno family.
