Jose' Gabriel Plazas, 72, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 in the Wyomissing residence of his son after having previously lived in Reading PA, Woodside and Sunnyside NY.

Born in Bogota, Colombia, he was the son of the late Jose' Maria Plazas and Laura Maria Escobar de Plazas. He completed high school through the 10th grade in Bogota. He was a highly accomplished furniture upholster employed by DeAngelis in New York where he retired in 2009. He was previously employed by Baron's Upholstery and Schneller's both of New York. His dedication and craftsmanship got him assigned to high end accounts namely Ronald Reagan and Diana Ross to name just two.

Jose' was a dedicated and beloved father to his family. He enjoyed daily conversations on the telephone with family both locally and abroad. He was the type of dad and friend that would "jump into the hole to help you out".

He enjoyed the camaraderie and team sport of soccer through the age of 45. Not only playing soccer provided enjoyment, but watching the Colombia and USA National teams did as well. His favorite teams were Santa Fe of Bogota and the New York Red Bulls. In addition to soccer, he found pleasure in watching baseball, especially his adored New York Mets. When he was not watching sports, he liked watching El Desafio. Not just woodworking, he was handy and talented with all types of crafts.

Left to treasure his memory are his children, Roger Gabriel Plazas (Anna Carolina Sanchez) of Wyomissing, Laura Milena Plazas of Reading, and Gerslyn Silva of Standford, Connecticut; siblings Aura Ligia Plazas de Choconta of Bogota, Rosalba Ramirez (Enrique Ramirez) of Reading, Clara Inez Plazas de Sabedra of Bogota, Maria Nelsi Plazas Escobar of Bogata, and Jorge Humberto Plazas Escobar (Paulina Plazas) of Queens, New York; and grandchildren Andrew Nathan Plazas, Emely Plazas, Sergio R. Plazas, Gabriel A. Plazas, Sunny Plazas, and Vinka Luana Gaite.

Jose' was predeceased by his parents and siblings, María Esperanza Plazas de Acosta and Edelmira Plazas de Perez.

A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2600 St Albans Drive, Reading, PA 19609 on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 11 AM. Inurnment will be Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11 AM at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, 3139 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605.
