John D. Torok, 86, of Spring Township, passed away February 6, 2012 at 3:30 a.m. in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the husband of Anna (Ditko) Torok whom he married June 3, 1950 in the Ukranian Catholic Church, Laurel St., Reading.
John worked for the Overhead Door Co. for 38 years, then worked for Beard-Miller Co., part time for 12 years.
He and Ann were members of St. Margaret's R.C. Church, Reading for 38 years and Sacred Heart R.C. Church, West Reading for the past 4 years. John served as Eucharistic Minister at church and also volunteered at The Reading Hospital, serving the Eucharist to Catholic patients there.
He was a two-term past president of the Bern Township Lions Club and also did volunteer work for the Red Cross and Veterans Administration.
John was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII aboard the USS Quincy.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Susan C., wife of Gerry Wertz, Mohrsville and his son, David M., husband of Christine (Tabone) Torok, Shillington. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Gregory, Matthew, Adam, Peter, Shealene and two great-grandsons: Brady and Dylan and a great-great-granddaughter, Payton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret's R.C. Church, 925 Centre Avenue Reading, PA 19601. A viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will be private in Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to St. Margaret's R.C. Church Memorial Fund at the above address. Edward J.
