John T. Byrne, 85, of South Heidelberg Twp., died November 21, 2007 in Reading Hospital.
His wife Regina (Griffiths) Byrne died February 27, 2003.
Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late Jeremiah M., Sr. and Kathleen M. (Kelly) Byrne.
He was a graduate of West Mahonoy Township High School.
John was a surveyor for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 27 years retiring in 1982.
He was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield, where he was an usher for 25 years.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II with the 9th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor.
Survivors include four sons, John J., Buffalo, NY, Tom W., Sinking Spring, Joseph B., Blandon and Patrick M., Plano, TX; and one daughter, Regina L. (Byrne) Wertheimer, Philadelphia. There are also four brothers, William, Girardville, Vincent, Mascatuth, IL, David, Shenandoah and Paul, Ringtown; and two sisters Margaret (Byrne) Devanny, Shenandoah and Anne (Byrne) Bramley, Frackville. Ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive him.
He was predeceased by one sister, Kathryn Dougherty and two brothers, James S. Byrne and Jeremiah M. Byrne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Ignatius R.C.Church. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the mass at the church.
