John W. Sterling

John W. Sterling, 73, of Butler Street died Jan. 16 in the Highlands at Wyomissing Skilled Nursing Unit, where he had been a patient since Jan. 2.

He was the husband of Peggy A. (Hoffman) Sterling.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Leroy and Louise (Hissinger) Sterling.

Sterling was employed as a maintenance supervisor for 15 years by Parish Structural Products Division of Dana Corp. until 1962; for 18 years by Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., Pottstown, until 1980; and for 15 years by Unique Pretzel Bakery Inc., Muhlenberg Township, until his retirement in 2000.

He was a graduate of Reading High School.

Sterling was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Reading.

He was a Merchant Marine and Army veteran of World War II.

Sterling is also survived by two daughters, Bonnie L. Sterling, Sinking Spring, and Kim A. (Sterling) Henke, Muhlenberg Township.

Other survivors include two brothers, Leroy Reading, and Robert, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and a sister, Virginia (Sterling) Haas, Allentown.

There is also a granddaughter.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Viewing 10am until time of service. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring.
