John Stednitz

John Stednitz, 80, of Cumru Township, died July 17, 2011 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Joan M. (Brehony) Stednitz.

Born in St. Clair, he was a son of the late Prokop and Anna (Hafiniak) Stednitz.

John was a graduate of St. Clair High School.

He was employed with Dana Corporation for over 15 years and retired from Berks Packing after 25 years.

John was an avid baker, gardener and loved animals.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Beth A., wife of Ronald J. Shipper, Reading; John W., husband of Claire L. Stednitz, Wyomissing and Michael P., husband of Lisa L. Stednitz, Cumru Township. Also surviving are his brother, Peter Stednitz, Tamaqua; his sister, Helen Udut, St. Clair and his four grandchildren: Sarah, wife of Gregory Oshel, Silver Spring, MD, Caleigh Stednitz, Wyomissing, Caine Stednitz, Wyomissing and Keith Stednitz, Cumru Township.

John was predeceased by seven siblings: Andy, Julie, Mary, Metro, Joseph, Sam and Ann.

A Memorial Service will be Thursday at 9 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A visitation will be 8 to 9 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
