John A. Shirk

John A. Shirk, Jr. 80, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at ManorCare, Sinking Spring.

He was the husband of Dona (Ely) Shirk of Exeter. They shared 59 wonderful years together.

Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late John A. Shirk Sr. and Helen (Glenlast) Shirk. John attended Reading Central Catholic High School and graduated from Reading High School; he also attended Albright College.

He was employed at Cabot Corporation as a chemist for 45 years.

John loved the NY Yankees. He was a youth coach for his children and others in baseball, basketball, and football. He was a long-time bowler, was an avid card player, especially poker, and enjoyed gambling. Many will remember him running his stand at Fensty's Indoor Flea Market in Bally, PA.

He is survived by his children: Richard A. Shirk of East Norriton Twp, PA; Eric S. Shirk (husband of Heather) of Sinking Spring, PA; and Theresa Grieff (engaged to Derik Winner) of Antietam, PA; and his sister Patricia Marmontello of Fleetwood, PA; six grandchildren: Brandi, Sierra, Kayla, Tatum, Alexandra, and Clayton; and two great grandchildren, Declan, and Avery. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Bella.

A prayer service will be held on Monday, October 25, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. A visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
