John B. Rule

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Baxter Rule, 90, of Wyomissing, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 29, 2023, in Reading Hospital.

Jack was born on July 15, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA to Samuel and Miriam (Laird) Rule. He graduated from John Bartram High School and immediately served in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in London. Jack returned home and graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Secondary and Elementary Education. It was there where he met the love of his life, Mary Stevens, and they later got married on June 23, 1962. Jack went on to earn his Master's degree in Education and Administration from Temple University. He taught and was Principal in the Downingtown and Exeter Township School Districts. In his free time, he volunteered with the Cub Scout Pack 413, was a Docent for the Historical Society, and taught the 4th grade Junior Achievement Class. Jack was an active parishioner of the former St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church (now called St. John the Baptist de La Salle), as Treasurer of the Holy Name Society, and a Eucharistic Minister for Reading Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital. He was also a Bernardine Franciscan Associate of the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Congregation.

Jack Rule was a beloved son, husband, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will forever be remembered as being "smashing" and the fun-loving way he embraced life. He enjoyed family camping trips, and as his children grew, found new hobbies in wood-working and traveling. Every year he delighted his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with his ever-changing train platform display during the Christmas season. It was a labor of love, and it was enjoyed by everyone!

Jack is predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Miriam; and his siblings Stewart (Pete), George, Robert, and June. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Stephanie (Eric), Steven (Joyce), Patricia (David), Donna (Shane), and Michael (Sarah); his 18 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Please join Jack's family in celebrating his life, Monday December 11th, 10:00am at St. John the Baptist de La Salle's in Reading, PA. Burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. The visitation will be held before mass from 9:00 – 10:00 am.
