John W. Rhoads, 85, a resident at Country Meadows of Wyomissing, formerly of Fleetwood, died May 12 in ManorCare Health Services Inc., West Reading, where he had been a patient since April 8.
His wife, Carrie M. (Rohrbach) Rhoads, died May 25, 1997.
Born in Rockland Township, he was a son of the late Willard B. and Lottie M. (Angstadt) Rhoads.
Rhoads had been employed for 14 years by East Penn Manufacturing Co., Lyons, retiring June 1, 1983. He previously worked for 24 years at Stanley G. Flagg Co. Inc., Stowe, Montgomery County.
He was a member of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Rockland Township, where he served as former scout master for Cub and Boy Scouts Troop 585.
Rhoads was a 1937 graduate of Kutztown High School.
He was past secretary and treasurer of the New Jerusalem Cemetery board.
Rhoads is survived by a son, Bruce C., Wyomissing.
Other survivors include two brothers, Ray, Fleetwood, and James, Wescosville, Lehigh County.
There are also two grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. in New Jerusalem UCC. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., Laureldale, is in charge of arrangements.
