John R. Post

John R. Post Sr., devoted husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at The Highlands in Wyomissing. He was 87.

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, John was the son of the late Dr. Carl B. and Frances (Gaughan) Post. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, Reading, Pa, in 1956 and Saint Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, Pa in 1960.

After beginning his career with Union Carbide in New York City, John returned home and founded Post Precision Castings in 1964. Over the next six decades, he built the company into a respected leader in the precision investment casting industry, serving as its President throughout its history and until his death.

His guiding philosophy was simple: “If you love the job you do, you will never work a day in your life.” That belief was reflected in his extraordinary work ethic and immense pride in his craft as a foundryman.

Throughout his career, John served as a director of the Bank of Pennsylvania, Dauphin Deposit Bank and Trust Company, Investors Trust Company, Post Precision Properties, and the John R. Post Charitable Trust. He was also a member of the American Society for Metals, the American Foundry Society, and the Advisory Council of Holy Name High School.

His leadership, service, and philanthropy earned him numerous honors, including the Shield of Loyola Award from Saint Joseph’s University (2006); the Beta Gamma Sigma Award, Haub School of Business, Saint Joseph’s University (2012); the Most Distinguished Alumnus Award from Reading Central Catholic High School (2013); the Sacred Heart Legacy Award (2019); and the Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence (2020).

Although immensely proud of the business he founded, John’s greatest satisfaction came from giving back to the community that had given so much to him. His generosity and vision helped revitalize downtown Reading through Reading CollegeTowne and Alvernia University. He strengthened Saint Joseph’s University, his alma mater, by supporting facilities, programs, and opportunities that will serve generations of students. He championed Catholic education through Sacred Heart School, Holy Name, Berks Catholic High School, and numerous parish initiatives. He supported Caron Treatment Centers, Reading Hospital, the South Mountain YMCA, and countless charitable organizations that sought to improve the lives of others.

Yet for all of his accomplishments, John would undoubtedly say that his greatest achievement was his family and the time spent together. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Maryanne (Hennings) Post, of Wyomissing; his son, John R. Post Jr., of Vail, Colorado; his daughter, Maryanne F. Post and her husband, Drew M. Bell, of Wyomissing; and his cherished grandchildren, Charlotte, Amelia, and Scotty Bell.

He is also survived by his brothers, Carl B. Post and his wife, Grace, of Buffalo, New York; George F. Post and his wife, Sandy, of Wyomissing; and Peter D. Post of Presto, Pa. He is further survived by his stepchildren, Andrea L. Sullivan and her husband, Philip, of Irwin, Pa; Christine D. Dunkle and her husband, Michael, of Myerstown, Pa; Julie A. McGrody and her husband, Jim, of Irwin, Pa; and Michael S. Marion of Washington, Pa.
