John J. Pierce

John J. Pierce, 93 of Reading, died April 23, 2012 in St. Joseph's Hospital.

His wife, Sophie D. (Antosy) Pierce, died April 25, 2003. They were married for nearly 60 years.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Joseph and Johanna (Conway) Pierce.

He was a graduate of Reading High School in 1937.

A veteran of WW II, he served in the US Army's Fighting 69th Infantry in the European Theater.

John was employed by CarTech for 40 years retiring in 1980; he always looked forward to his Wednesday afternoon gatherings with the CarTech Fellowship Club.

He was a 50 year member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Reading. He loved going to daily Mass at his home parish.

John is survived by his three children, Mary Ann, wife of Brian Wayne, Camp Hill; Stephen J. Pierce, Shillington; and Rosemary, wife of Kenneth Kieffer, Hamburg. Five grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Brian, Jennifer and Joseph; and six great-granddaughters also survive him.

He was predeceased by a son, John S. Pierce in 1968, and six siblings, Mary, Robert, Ann, Catherine, Margaret and James.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret's Church. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Edward J.
