John P. Manning

John P. "Jack" Manning, 85, of Reading, died September 19, 2009.

He was the widower of Kathleen M. (Moore) Manning, who died April 22, 2007.

Born in the Reading Hospital on August 4, 1924, he was a son of the late Joseph J. and Alice M. (Price) Manning.

He was employed as a baker with Schofer's Quality Bakery for a number of years and was a former president of the American Bakers and Confectionery Union #289.

Jack was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Reading.

He was a life member of the Washington Fire Company.

John is survived by two sons: Joseph J. Manning of St. Petersburg, Florida; George M. Manning of Schuykill Haven and a son-in-law, Bruce H. McKnight, NH.

Other survivors include four grandchildren: Alicia, Bruce, Matthew and Brian and five great grandchildren: Alexis, Christina, Daniel, Bruce and Robert; and one great-great grandchild.

Also surviving are Richard and Kimberly Weiser and several other nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his daughter, Jill A. McKnight and his brothers, James Manning and Warren Manning.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter's R.C. Church, Reading. A viewing will be held Wednesday night 6 - 8 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading and also one hour prior to Mass in the church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township.
