John D. Metzger

Dr. John David Metzger PhD., P.E. of Irwin, Pennsylvania formerly of Reading, Pennsylvania and Northport, New York passed away on October 12, 2012 at the age of 59. Beloved son of Lukrezia (Lunenschloss) Metzger and the late Peter Paul Metzger. Devoted and Loving Father of Rachel, Matthew and Jennifer. Brother of Ronald Metzger and Gilda Keturakis.

Graduated from Wilson High School (Reading) 1974. He received degrees in Nuclear Engineering from University of Tennessee at Knoxville BS 1975, University of Illinois at Champaign – Urbana MS 1977 and University of New Mexico PhD 1989.

Currently the Director of Nuclear Engineering Department at the University of Pittsburgh. Former employee of Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corp, State University of New York at Stony Brook, Northrop Grumman and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Member of the American Nuclear Society, Gallup Panel and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Highly regarded professor and public speaker in the field of nuclear engineering, which awarded him numerous recognitions through patents, grants and publications.

Viewing will be held on Friday October 19, 2012 from 10a.m. – 12p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave, West Reading. Service to follow at 12 p.m. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township.
