John E. Mcdermott

John E. McDermott, 92, passed away on December 2, 2021, in his Sinking Spring residence, surrounded by his loving wife, Catherine Ann McDermott, and family.

Born in Wyoming, PA, he was a son of the late James B. and Lucille R. (O'Malley) McDermott.  He graduated from Scranton Preparatory High School. He earned a scholarship to Holy Cross College in Worcester, Mass. After graduation, he received a BA degree in economics and was commissioned as an Engineer in the US Navy, where he served for three years. He then joined IBM and worked there in various positions for 35 years.

In addition to his wife Cathy, he is survived by his children: Scott McDermott of Long Beach, MS, Kevin McDermott of Gulfport, MS, and Constance P. Funk (Gary) of Quakertown, PA; step-children, Joseph Maloney (Hannah) of Joelton, TN and Patrick Maloney  (Allison) of Wyomissing, PA; his granddaughters: Katelyn, Breanna, and Claire, and 35 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings: James McDermott, Mary Keough, Lucille Delaney, Thomas McDermott, and Joseph McDermott.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, 2600 St Albans Dr, Reading.  Burial will be held privately at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass at the church.  Contributions may be made to St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608 or to Scranton Preparatory School, 1000 Wyoming Ave, Scranton, PA 18509.  Edward J.
