John M. Marabella, 67, of West Lawn, passed away on Tuesday, October 15th after a courageous battle with cancer at the Reading Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in 1957 to his late father, Peter Marabella, and his mother, Dorothy (Vilardo) Marabella, of Wyomissing. He was raised in Reading alongside his brother, Phillip Marabella (wife Stephanie), of Sinking Spring and his sister, Sherry Gundersen (husband Paul), of Sinking Spring.
John graduated from Holy Name High School in 1975 before attending Susquehanna University and receiving a degree in Business. After attaining his degree, John pursued a career in industrial engineering and worked for Reading Truck Body for 37 years.
In 1981, John married, Kathleen J. (Noon) Marabella. They recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. Together, they raised three daughters: Megan L. Flannery (husband Brian) of West Lawn; Erin P. Antosy (husband Robert) of Wyomissing; and Nicole E. Talbot (husband Christopher) of Washington, DC. John's greatest joy was being Pop-Pop to his five grandchildren, Molly, Emma, Benjamin, Penelope, and Shawn.
Sports were an integral part of John's life. No one was a bigger Philadelphia sports fan than John. Seeing the Eagles win Super Bowl LII and attending the Victory Parade were major highlights for him. For over 25 years, he coached football and softball at Holy Name High School and Berks Catholic. In 2013, John was inducted into the Holy Name Hall of Fame for his athletic accomplishments and service.
John had a magnetic personality. He had a positive impact on countless young athletes, friends, and family members. Most importantly, John cherished the time he spent with his family. He spent as much time as he could with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and all who knew him.
