John M. Romanofsky

John M. Romanofsky, 88, formerly of West Lawn, died peacefully on June 21, 2015, at ManorCare Nursing Center, West Reading after an extended illness.

His wife, Beatrice W. Romanofsky died on April 29, 2011.

Born in Blackcreek Township, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Valites) Romanofsky.

He was a graduate of Blackcreek Township High School in 1945 and Penn State University.

John was a U.S. Army veteran. He earned a victory medal while serving during WWII.

He was born and raised on a depression era farm in Conyngham Valley, PA, where he evolved to be a very hard working farmer along with his parents and sisters. His love for agriculture continued throughout his life in the suburbs, where he was an avid gardener who generously shared his homegrown vegetables with family and friends.

He worked as a draftsman and designer and Jr. Bridge Engineer for Michael Baker, Jr., Harrisburg. He later worked in the same capacity for Gilbert Associates, Reading, Sanders and Thomas, Pottstown and Henkles and McCoy, Blue Bell.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

John was also a member of the VFW, Sinking Spring and Knights of Columbus 4th degree Light of Christ Council # 8726.

He is survived by his daughter, Patrice Marie Romanofsky, Philadelphia; two nephews, George, Jr., husband of Marilyn Hunka and their daughters, Goldie and Billie, and John, husband of Kylie Hunka, all of New York City;numerous nieces, nephews, geat-nieces and great-nephews of York and Altoona, PA; and his cousin, Marilyn (Valites) Robinson, Schwenksville. He is also survived by a host of extended family, including many cousins throughout Central, PA, and cherished neighborhood friends.

John was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Hunka and Loretta Romanofsky.

A Prayer Service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
