John P. Konopelski, Deacon at the Reading Hospital, died on April 23, 2025 at the Berks Heim, at 88 years old. He was the beloved husband of Alice Marie (Foley) Konopelski until her passing on January 20, 2020.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Pauluk) Konopelski. John was a 1954 graduate of Reading Catholic High School , and a graduate of Temple University Technical Institute.
He was an Air Force Veteran, and a member of the 327th Airlift Squadron. He worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber as an Instrument Technician for 18 years, and was last employed at Allentown State Hospital, as an electrician, before retiring in 1999.
He was a member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Reading. He did volunteer work at the Berks County Prison, and was a member of the Pretzel City Chorus. John was ordained a permanent Deacon on October 16, 1982 by the Allentown Dioceses. He was a member of the first deaconic class of the Allentown Dioceses. He was assigned to the Reading Hospital Medical Center, and St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, serving at Reading Hospital for 33 years.
John is survived by his children: Raymond Konopelski (Evelisse), Mary Alice Kuhns (Russell), John V. Konopelski, Lisa Konopelski (Tracy), Laura Wilson (Jeff), James Konopelski, Edward S. Konopelski, Thomas J. Konopelski, and Adam J. Konopelski (Mary); his 15 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings: Stanley, Louis, and Steve.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Margarets RCC, 925 Centre Ave, Reading, PA 19601, with burial to follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Reading. Friends and family may gather at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the beginning of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's honor to the St. Francis Home at 144 Hillside Dr, Reading, PA 19607 or to St Margaret RCC at the address above.
