John W. Kalina

John W. Kalina, Jr., 57, of Spring Twp., died February 14, 2008 in his residence.

He was the loving and devoted husband of Grace A. (Gallagher) Kalina, with whom he celebrated 30 years of marriage on December 24.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late John W., Sr. and Marie E. (Shalter) Kalina.

He was a graduate of Governor Mifflin High School in 1968. John earned his degree in Economics from Albright College in 1972, where he played golf and was captain of the team.

John has been the owner/operator of the Marie Shaw School of Dance DBA Dance Fusion Studios since 1982. The school has been in business for nearly 75 years.

A well known dancer and actor, he began dancing at age 3. His mother, Marie (Shalter) Kalina, the founder of the family business, was his primary instructor. He went on to perform and study across the country. John has appeared in dozens of musicals, performed in regional theatre and worked as a professional entertainer, singer, dancer and Master of Ceremonies. He began teaching at age 16 and has continued to teach tap and acrobatics until recently. He has had former students appear in Broadway shows, television, cabarets, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, cruise ships and amusement parks across America.

In addition to his wife, he was the loving father of Megan G., wife of John R. Delp, Spring Twp. and their newborn son, Alexander John Delp.

Also surviving is one sister, Christina M. wife of Lee Stauffer, Mohnton.

Memorial Services will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
