John J. Buckley

John J. Buckley, Sr., 86, died October 21, 2011 in his Wernersville residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of Jean G. (Williams) Buckley. They celebrated their 63rd year of marriage on September 11.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Gerald and Mary (Cavanaugh) Buckley.

John was a 1943 graduate of Reading High School.

He worked as a tool die maker and foreman for Molly Corporation for over 32 years, retiring in 1998.

John was a member of the VFW #378, Reading, and the Reading and Berks Basketball Old-Timers.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving for three years on the USS Piedmont in the Pacific Theater.

John was a member of St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, Robesonia, and a former long time member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Reading.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Dr. Ronald J., husband of Kathy Buckley, Allentown; John J., Jr., husband of Paulette Buckley, Wyomissing and Sandra J. Buckley, wife of Gary Mullen, Lincoln Park. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren: Joseph, husband of Jessica Bialek; Dr. Christopher, husband of Krista Buckley; Peter, husband of Alexis Buckley; Dr. Jonathan Buckley; Josh, husband of Lauren Buckley; Matthew, husband of Alyssa Buckley; and Kelly Jean, wife of Brett Rothermel; and his nephew James, husband of Marian Wanner. Nine great-grandchildren also survive him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales, 321 North Church St, Robesonia, PA 19551. A viewing will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, and Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales RCC at the above address.
