John W. Hartung

John W. Hartung, 75, of Reading, died November 21, 2009.

He was the husband of Ruthanne (Kramer) Hartung.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late J. Edwin and Ruth M. (Harpst) Hartung.

He was a 1952 graduate of Reading High School and a 1961 graduate of Kutztown University, earning a B.S. in Secondary Education.

John was a teacher of History and Social Studies, working in the Eastern Lebanon School District from 1961 to 1963 and then for the Reading School District until his retirement in 1993.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Reading.

John was a U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command Veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons: John E., husband of Tracy Hartung, Pasadena, CA and William P., husband of Eulalia Hartung, Upper Darby. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Justin, Taylor, Amaya and Megan.

John was predeceased by his sister, Miriam Kreitz and his brother, James E. Hartung.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in St John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday 9 to 10 a.m. in the church.
