John E. Hartman

John E. Hartman, 70, of Mohnton, passed away November 13, 2015, in Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse,

Philadelphia.

Born in Myerstown, PA, John was the husband of Leocadia (Booths) Hartman, and the son of the late Herman H. and Stella (Batdorf) Hartman. He was a graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School and Kutztown University, where he received his B.A. in Sociology. Prior to his studies at Kutztown, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, and served in Okinawa, Japan, during the Vietnam War.

John derived a great deal of satisfaction from his professional life. He was employed by Mack Trucks as Manager of Internal Material Control for its operations in Macungie, PA, and worked previously for Volvo Powertrain in Hagerstown, MD, as well as Rockwell International and Goss Graphics, both in Reading. He was also a former president of the Reading Traffic Club.

Throughout his life, John held an abiding interest in the sports world. The TV and car radio were never far from the latest football, hockey, basketball, baseball or golf broadcasts, and he channeled that interest into many years as a youth baseball and soccer coach in the Shillington area. However, his greatest happiness came from sharing time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his sons, Brian L., husband of Gayle (Levy) Hartman, Alexandria, VA; Benjamin J., Queens, NY; and Bradley J., husband of Hallie (Boger) Hartman, Newton, MA. He is also survived by his siblings, Henry Hartman, Lansdale; Lucille Nevin, Lebanon; and Mary Ginder, Cleona; and by his grandchildren, Eliana, Ian, and Luke Hartman.

Family, friends and co-workers are invited to a Celebration of John's Life to be held on December 12, 2015, from 12:00-3:00 pm at Chef Alan's Restaurant, 525 Penn Ave., West Reading. Edward J.
