John F. Haggerty

John F. Haggerty Jr., 82, died March 19th at 12:20 p.m. in his residence at 3516 Stoudts Ferry Bridge Road, Muhlenberg Township.

He was the husband of Carmela (Brusca) Haggerty.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John F. Sr., and Elsie (Madeira) Haggerty.

He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

Haggerty was a 1938 graduate of Reading High School.

He served as a Captain for the United States Army during WWII.

Haggerty and his wife were the owners of Johnnie's Food Market, North 8th and Windsor Streets, Reading, for 25 years.

He last worked for AWI, Robesonia in Store Development for 12 years before retiring in September 1985.

Haggerty is also survived by a son, John F. III husband of Nina L. (Heffner) Haggerty of Muhlenberg Township.

Other survivors include two sisters, Jane (Haggerty) wife of Ray Kase of Shillington and Evelyn (Haggerty) wife of Stanley Springer of Delaware.

He is also survived by two grandchildren, John F. IV husband of Chantelle Haggerty of Orefield, Lehigh County and Kelli L. (Haggerty) wife of Dr. Russell Emrich of Muhlenberg Township.

There is also two great grandchildren, Devon R. Haggerty and John F. Haggerty the fifth.

He was predeceased by a brother, Warren H. Haggerty and a sister, Ruth Ann Haggerty.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, Pa 19605. Viewing Saturday in the church from 9 - 10 am. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township. Contributions may be made to Berks Visiting Nurses c/o Hospice 1170 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, Pa 19610 or to the church. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.
