John N. Gerhard

John N. Gerhard, 80, passed away September 8, 2009 in his Alsace Township residence surrounded by his loving family.

His wife, Mabel A. (Pettit) Gerhard, died December 16, 1992.

Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Anna (Shutter) Gerhard.

He was employed for 44 years as a heavy equipment operator by Portland Cement Company, Evansville, retiring on January 31, 1991.

John was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by two sons, David Gerhard, Alsace Township and Steven Gerhard, Walnuttown; two daughters, Jean Gerhard and Linda Beebe both of Alsace Township and a brother Kenneth Gerhard, Greenfields; and three grandchildren, Jessica Scholz, Jason Gerhard and Scot Beebe and a great-granddaughter, Alexandria Rose Beebe.

John was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth and Betty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels, 3121 Kutztown Road Hyde Park, Reading, PA 19605. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading.
