John J. Garhammer, 90, formerly of Shillington, died December 12, 2010 at the ManorCare Nursing Home, Sinking Spring, where he was a resident since March 2007.
His wife, Anna M. (Riegel) Garhammer, died March 5, 2000.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Edward B. and Florence (Letterhouse) Garhammer.
He was a graduate of Reading High School in 1938.
John was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II, and was awarded a Bronze Star.
He was a bus driver for BARTA for 40 years retiring in 1987.
John was a member of St. John Baptist de LaSalle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington.
He is survived by his son John J. Garhammer, Jr., Huntington Beach, CA. His sister-in-law, Ruth (Gring) Garhammer, Reading also survives him.
John was predeceased by his brother Robert C. Garhammer in 2008.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, entombment will follow the Mass.
