John G. "Jack" Ferenchick, 74, of Sinking Spring, passed away peacefully in his residence on Sunday, May 14, 2017.
He was the husband of Carole (Yaroshak) Ferenchick whom he married on August 27,1966 in St. Ann's Byzantine Catholic Church in Harrisburg.
Born in Pottsville, John was the son of the late John J. and Mary (Butchko) Ferenchick.
John was a 1961 graduate of Nativity BVM High School, Pottsville. He later earned a bachelor's degree in Social Studies and Special Education from Kutztown State College.
John served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1962-1968 and was a proud member of the Marine Corps League.
After a long career as a lab technician at both Crompton & Knowles and Arkema, he taught special education at SCI Camp Hill, retiring in 2012 after fourteen years.
John played for the 1966 State Champion Boonton Bears in the semi-pro New Jersey Football League.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Pottstown.
John was a devoted husband, loving father, and wonderful grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Stephen, husband of Rebecca Ferenchick, Wynnewood, PA; Michael Ferenchick, Lancaster; and Timothy, husband of Grace Naing Ferenchick, Sinking Spring; two brothers: James Ferenchick, husband of Connie, Orwigsburg; and Francis Ferenchick, husband of Dawn, Schuylkill Haven; five grandchildren: Ellie, Kate, Alex, Sam, and Will; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Divine Liturgy will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. in Nativity of BVM Catholic Church, 504 Summit Ave., Reading, PA. Burial will follow in Nativity's Church Cemetery in Flying Hills. A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 17, from 5:30-8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, 19611, where a Parastas Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Also, a viewing will be on Thursday, May 18, from 9-9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
