John Essick

John P. "Big John" Essick, 82, of Reading, passed away peacefully May 20, 2015 in the home of his son, Joseph Essick

He was the husband of Genevieve T. "Jean" (Pieja) Essick

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth (Brennan) Essick.

He worked as a welder for Dana Corporation for 32 1/2 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Reading.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by, three children: Kathleen A. Althouse, Knauers;

Joseph R., husband of Helen Essick, Reading; Bryan K., husband of Robin Essick, Fleetwood.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Russell; Dakota; Joshua; Nikki; Tim; Elyse; and Tristan; and three great-grandchildren: Madison; Jullian; and Sophia.

John was predeceased by six siblings, Thomas Essick; Richard Essick; William Essick; Robert Essick; Margaret Shuker; and Jane Byerly; and his granddaughter, Emily Katzaman Essick.

Graveside services will be private in Gethsemane Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to St. Joseph's R. C. Church, 1018 N 8th St, Reading, PA 19604. Edward J.
