John Ellsworth Spayd, 82, of Muhlenberg Township, died March 17, 2012 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since March 12.
He was the husband of Charlotte J. (Pendergraft) Spayd who died January 9, 2007.
Born in Temple, he was a son of the late John Isaac and Erma Mary (Keller) Spayd.
John was employed with Carpenter Technology, Muhlenberg Township for 33 years, retiring as supervisor of the melting department.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. While there, he served in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper.
Surviving are two daughters: Elaine E. (Spayd) Doty of South Hutchinson, KS and Anne Marie Spayd, fiancé of Mike Gring of Spring Township.
Other survivors include two sisters, Mary E., wife of Walter J. Bohn of Lower Heidelberg Township and Ida May, wife of Donald Dissler of Leesport.
Also surviving is a granddaughter, Alyssa Roberts of South Hutchinson, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by a son, John Thomas Spayd, a sister, Pearl J. Yates and a brother, William E. Spayd.
Services will be private at the conveniece of the family. Burial will be in Becker's St. Peter's Cemetery, Molltown.
