John Dykty, 101, born on December 16, 1915, died on December 16, 2016. How many people are special enough to enter into and leave this world on the same day?
He was one of five children of Frank and Veronica (Osmola). John was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Fannie (Razzano) as well as his three brothers: Frank, Thomas and George. His sister Anna still resides in Reading. He is also survived by his son, John D. and his wife Laurie (Hague), Reading.
A World War II veteran earning three Bronze Stars for Meritorious Service, serving with the 111th Radio Signal Intelligence Company, as a high speed Morse Code operator and instructor while in the Philippines and New Guinea.
Three Bronze Stars placed on his chest.
Three Bronze Stars now laid to rest.
Three Bronze Stars, no more, no less.
Not of silver and not of gold
But they were his to behold.
He didn't know he'd earned them,
He had to be told.
And even then, with the waive of his hand
He'd say, "I don't know - but if you say so.
It was a long time ago."
He believed he had a job to do.
He would only do his best-
Regardless of the test.
Three Bronze Stars will be remembered.
Three Bronze Stars are on his chest.
Three Bronze Stars now laid to rest.
