John D. Casey

Dr. John D. Casey, 84, Wyomissing, died Sept. 8 at 3:45 p.m. in Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia, where he had been a patient since Aug. 31.

He was the husband of Anne M. (Werner) Casey, a resident at the Highlands at Wyomissing.

Born in Oneonta, N.Y., he was a son of the late Edward and Laura (Wright) Casey.

Casey was employed as a general surgeon in Philadelphia for many years.

He was a 1941 graduate of the University of Scranton, and a 1944 graduate of Temple University Medical School, Philadelphia. He completed his residency at Temple University Hospital in 1953.

Casey was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Casey is also survived by two sons, Dr. John D. Jr., Wyomissing, and Dr. Steven E., Hatfield, Montgomery County; and five daughters: Susan (Casey) Lubbers, Emmaus, Lehigh County; Judith (Casey) Stephenson, Hillsborough, Calif.; Elizabeth (Casey) Wonder, Vienna, Va.; Dr. Anne Marie Casey, White Plains, N.Y.; and Lauren (Casey) McTear, Erdenheim, Montgomery County.

Other survivors include a sister, Loretta (Casey) Hyland, Jermyn, Lackawanna County; and two brothers, Edward and Kenneth, both of Archbald, Lackawanna County.

There are also 25 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Friends may call Tuesday 9:30 -11:00 a.m. at the church.Contributions may be made to Carmelite Monastery, Old York Road & 66th St., Philadelphia, PA 19102. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
