John C. Caldwell, 83, formerly of West Reading, passed away in Berks Heim June 24, 2007.
He was the husband of the late Helen (Simpson) Caldwell who died November 26, 1990.
Born in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Landis and Susan (Eckman) Caldwell.
He was a graduate of Lancaster McCaskey High School in 1942.
John was a member of St. James Church, West Reading, for 55 years. He served as a sexton for 14 years and was also a deacon, and an elder. He set up the sound system to record services and sent the tapes to shut-ins.
He was employed for 40 years as a service manager at Dictaphone, Reading.
John was a Technical Sergeant in the US Army serving in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany during WW II.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas husband of Mary, Winston-Salem, N.C. and Kenneth, Mountville, and a daughter, Barbara E wife of Kevin Bitz, West Lawn.
John is also survived by a sister, Pauline Caldwell, Lancaster.
Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Andrew Bitz, Jeremy Bitz, Bryan Caldwell, Jonathan Caldwell, Melissa Caldwell, Christopher Caldwell, and Steven Caldwell and three great granddaughters.
Service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in St James Church 700 Penn Avenue West Reading, PA 19611. Friends may call one hour before the service in the church.
