John J. Breen

John Joseph "Jack" Breen, 79, of Shillington and formerly of Fleetwood, died April 13, 2008 at 5:20 pm in St. Joseph Medical Center, where he had been a patient since March 21st.

He was married April 22, 2006 to Dolores Juliett (Guido) Breen of Shillington. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gloria May "Dolly" (Schaeffer) Breen, who died July 12, 2004.

Born December 18, 1928 in Reading, PA., he was a son of the late Thomas H. and Laura J.(Shelly) Breen.

He was a 1946 graduate of St. Peter's High School, Reading.

Jack was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist de La Salle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington.

Jack was employed 35 years with Carpenter Technology, Reading, retiring in 1990 as a shift supervisor.

He was a member of Lower Alsace Fire Company Beneficial Club, Victor Emmanuel II, East End Social Club and South End Social Club where he also played in their fast pitch league.

Jack was also a member of the Rising Sun Fast Pitch team.

He was an avid golfer and a fan of both Notre Dame and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Jack is also survived by two sons; Michael D. Breen of Reading and Patrick T. husband of Maria E. (Cuesta) Breen of Exeter Township and two step-sons; Samuel J. husband of Cynthia S. (Croh) Marks of Philadelphia and Gregory A. Marks of Shillington.

There are also two siblings; Ruth T. (Breen) widow of Fred Scheidegger of Temple and Elizabeth A. (Breen) widow of John Forlini of Reading.

Three grandchildren, Nicholas P. Breen, Anthony J. Breen and Caitlyn V. Breen and a step granddaughter, Shannon N. Davis also survive him.

Other survivors include a great grandson, Quentin Thomas Breen and two step great grandchildren; Savanna M. Davis and Audrey E. Davis.

He was predeceased by five siblings; Margariette C. Stengel, Thomas H. Breen, Mary J. Mull, James D. Breen and Ethel L. Breen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:00 am in St. John's R.C. Church, 420 Holland Street, Shillington, PA 19607, with Fr. John Frink celebrating. Viewings will be held Thursday 6:30 - 8:00 pm and Friday 9:00 - 9:30 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
