John David Beatty, 73, passed away May 31, 2013 in his Wyomissing residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Robin J. (Johnston) Beatty, whom he married 49 years ago.
Born in Meadville, PA, he was a son of the late Frank R. and Helen D. (Hornstrom) Beatty.
He was a 1957 graduate of Meadville High School; a 1962 graduate of Penn State University and 1983 graduate of Harvard Business School A.M.P.
John started his career in sales for E.I. DuPont then, after moving to Reading, PA, he worked for the Polymer Corporation as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He then joined YBI in Lititz, PA as their Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the following companies and organizations: Planned Parenthood; Berk Tek; Community General Hospital and was the Chairman of the 1984 United Way Campaign for Berks County. He was active in fundraising campaigns for Penn State University Berks Campus and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Penn State where he and his two sons are members. He was the current president of Bear Hollow Hunting and Fishing Club in Lycoming County, PA.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, woodworking and traveling. His true passion was spending time with his family and he cherished sharing the outdoors with his wife, sons and granddaughters.
He served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his two children: John David, Jr., husband of Sarah Beatty, Downingtown and Douglas M., husband of Julia Beatty, Chester Springs. Also surviving are his brother, James S. Beatty, Meadville and his two granddaughters: Kendall and Morgan.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Ave., Reading, PA 19604 or the charity of your choice.
