John Lewis Bachman

John Lewis Bachman, 85, of Muhlenberg Township, died January 14, 2009 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth (Erb) Bachman, whom he married December 28, 1963.

Born May 12, 1923 in Hamburg, he was a son of the late Nevin Roy, Sr. and Laura Hoffman (Mengel) Bachman.

John was a 1940 graduate of Hamburg High School.

He was employed as an Electronics Technician at Lucent Technologies, Muhlenberg Township, for 28 years, retiring in 1986.

John was a member of St. John's Reformed Church, Sinking Spring.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children, John L. Bachman, Jr. of Kutztown; Michael S. Bachman of Cumru Township; Mark J. Bachman of Brecknock Township and Mary Louise (Bachman) Aims of Baltimore, MD.

In addition there are three brothers, Nevin R. Bachman, Jr. and Oscar Bachman, both of Hamburg and Oliver Bachman of Clarmont, FL.

Other survivors include nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

John was predeceased by a brother Richard Bachman.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale, is in charge of arrangements.
