John A. Reedy

John A. Reedy

John (Jack) A. Reedy, 96 passed away on January 17, 2022 at Berkshire Commons. Jack, as he was known, was the husband of Marie T. (Motkowski), who died on July 4, 2010. They were married for 58 years.

Born in Reading on September 18, 1925 at the Reading Hospital, he was the son of Henry G. and Anne A. (Sauer) Reedy.

He was a graduate of RHS and earned a BS in teaching from Kutztown State Teachers College. He studied poetry at the University of Georgia. He later went on to Columbia University in New York where he earned a Masters Degree in Education Administration.

John served our nation proudly and valiantly in the US Navy during World War II stationed in Cuba in the Navy on the Yag18.

John was employed by Northwest Jr. High School as an English teacher for over 30 years. He was also the head coach of the track and football team at Northwest, and assistant football coach at the Reading High School. Jack proudly served as an educator of hundreds of students in his community. He later went on to start up the new adult education night school at RACC after retiring from Northwest Junior. He retired as Adult Education Administrator from RACC in 1991.

A devout Catholic, John was a member of the Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church and Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Reading.

In his free time, Jack enjoyed fixing things and remodeling the house as well as painting and drawing countless works of art, and carving beautiful items from literature out of wood. Jack also enjoyed spending time in the summer with his family enjoying fishing and swimming in Wildwood NJ and Sea Breeze NJ. He was an avid fisherman, talented and creative artist, and enthusiastic coin collector.

John is survived by five children: Joseph A Reedy, Marie F. Schmehl, wife of John, John G. Reedy, husband of Brenda (DeSantis), all of Reading, Thomas C. Reedy, husband of Linda (Clarida) of Ventnor, NJ, and Ann E. (Reedy) Flynn, wife of Michael of Reading. Also his 5 grandchildren: Amanda, Jacqueline, Johnathan, Jenna and John. As well as his six great grandchildren: Carter, Sam, Quinn, Amelia Jean, Luke, and Nolan. He was predeceased by three siblings: Henry Reedy, Ann Marie Reedy, and Joseph Reedy.

Special thanks goes to all the fantastic care he received from Berkshire Commons and the Compassus Hospice Staff for their help and assistance during his journey there.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, January 24, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Rd, Reading, PA 19605 with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church at the address above. Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Temple is in charge of arrangements.
