John A. Murphy, 83, formerly of Fisher Road, Greenfields, died Oct. 7 at 9:09 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Sept. 30.
He was taken to the hospital from Columbia Cottage, Spring Township, where he had resided three years.
His wife, Helen A. (Makowski) Murphy, died March 13, 1996.
Born in Port Clinton, Schuylkill County, he was a son of the late John T. and Florence J. (Scanlon) Murphy.
Murphy was employed as a machinist by Textile Machine Works and Rockwell International, both of Wyomissing, retiring in 1980.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Murphy was a member of St. Margaret Roman Catholic Church, Reading.
Surviving are two nieces, Kathleen Shockley, Wyomissing, and Helen Suess, Hamilton, N.J.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
