John A. Jones, 70, died October 12 in his Mont Clare residence.
Born in New Castle, he was the son of the late Ivor and Erma (Perrine) Jones.
He was the owner of Industrial Abrasives, Reading where he worked for 30 years retiring in 1995.
He was a standout basketball player. He played both at West Middlesex High School and Penn State University. His high school team won the PA State Championship in 1954. He was inducted into the Mercer County Hall of Fame for basketball. He was also an avid golfer, playing the majority of his golf at the Berkshire Country Club. He was club champion at Eastpointe Country Club, Palm Gardens, FL for several years in a row.
He graduated from West Middlesex High School and attended Penn State University.
Survivors include one son, Lawrence I. husband of Betty, Blandon and two daughters, Sandra A. wife of Jeffrey A. Reese, Wyomissing and Laura A. wife of Richard D. Bibb, West Reading.
Other survivors include one sister Marian E. Jones, Exeter Twp. He is also survived by Dena Reese with whom he resided. His former wife Polly (McMichael) Jones, Flying Hills also survives him.
There are two grandchildren, Mackenzie M. Reese and Parker W. Reese.
Memorial services will be held Monday, October 23 at 6 p.m. in St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Wilshire.
