Born on March 9, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Newton E. and Lucile (Norris) Leyda.
Joanne was a graduate of Oakwood High School, Oakwood, Ohio. She attended the University of Arizona and Mt. Vernon College, Washington, DC.
Joanne spent her working years as an elementary school teacher in the Governor Mifflin School District and as Human Resources Director at SAI Corporation, Exeter Township. Her true passion, however, was taking care of her family and traveling with them and her friends to the Caribbean, Europe, South Africa, Hawaii, and New Zealand. Plus, many wonderful summers were spent in Stone Harbor, NJ.
Joanne was an avid sportsperson and was extremely competitive in every sport she tried. She was captain of her high school basketball and field hockey teams. She excelled in swimming, equestrian jumping, and ice skating. Joanne was an outstanding tennis player as a member of the Berks County Tennis Club. She was also the first female commodore of the White Lake Yacht Club in Michigan and competed internationally in her four-crew E-boat.

Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kevin, Taylor, Warren, and Lucy Wolfe, and Luc duPreez. She loved her family very much and she was the glue that held them all together.
She was predeceased by her son, Andrew H. Wolfe, and her brother, William Leyda and his wife, Martha.
