Joanne L. Unger

Joanne L. Unger, 75, died November 20, 2007 in her Temple residence.

She was the wife of Edward B. Unger whom she married on January 8, 1972.

Born in West Reading on December 26, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Elsie M. (Rubright) Sturdivant.

Joanne was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School in 1949 and attended Temple University, Penn State University and Albright College.

She was owner and operator of Joanne's Beauty Shop, Temple from 1956 to 1969. From 1969 to 1972 she taught at Empire Beauty School, Reading; she retired from Berks Vocational Technical School, Oley in 1987 after 15 years of service.

Joanne was a member of Good Shepherd U.C.Church, Tuckerton, where she was a former member of both the choir and bell choir. She was also the past Christian Education Director at the church.

In addition to her husband she is also survived by one son, Ronald S. Gross, Mertztown; and two step daughters, Denise (Unger) Latshaw, Spring Twp. and Kelly Lynn (Unger) Holmes, Reading. Four grandchildren, four step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren also survive her. She was predeceased by one brother, William J. Sturdivant.

Services will be Sunday, December 9 at 2 p.m. in Good Shepherd U.C.C. 100 Tuckerton Road, Reading, PA 19605. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.
