Joanne M. Herb

Joanne M. (Walters) Herb, 58, of Spring Township, surrounded by her loving family, slipped peacefully into the arms of the Lord on August 12, 2014, in Kutztown Manor.

She was the wife of Ricky L. Herb. They were married on September 8, 1973.

Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Betty (Hinnershitz) Walters.

She was a 1973 graduate of Wilson High School.

Joanne was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church.

She was a secretary for 28 years for Redner's Corporate Office.

Joanne founded the Thunderbolts Drum and Baton Corp in 1982. The group performed in parades all over Pennsylvania and the surrounding states. The group transitioned into a baton and dance group which competed at local, regional, state and national level. The group later transitioned into the Thunderbolts Production Unit, which performed at local fairs, nursing homes, the Wildwood Boardwalk and Bethany Beach

Joanne was runner up of the Miss Reading Fair in 1972 and selected Miss Allentown in 1973.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Shane M., husband of Andrea Herb and Christopher L. Herb, all of Spring Township; four siblings, Robert, husband of Cynthia Walters, Spring Township, Bruce Walters, Stouchburg, Barry, husband of Claudia Walters, Spring Township and Linda, wife of Donald Stehman, Bern Township.

She was also survived by five grandchildren, Kylie, Madison, Caden, Brady and Chase Herb.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be private. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
