Joan H. Kochinsky

Joan H. (Boyle) Kochinsky, " Mrs. K" 80, of Muhlenberg Township, died September 11, 2012, at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

She was the wife of Jerome Louis Kochinsky, whom she married September 11, 1954.

Born July 12, 1932 in Reading, she was the daughter of late Thomas F. and Hildred L. (Heilman) Boyle.

Joan was a 1949 graduate of McAdoo High School. She received her BS in Chemistry, Magna Cum Laude in 1955 from Albright College and her Nursing Degree from Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1955 where she was valedictorian and the class president.

She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Muhlenberg Township.

Joan worked as a nurse supervisor at the Reading Hospital for 10 Years. She also worked, as a school nurse for 30 years, 26 of those at Muhlenberg High School.

She served as the Secretary for the Muhlenberg Senior Women's Club, and also served 15 years with the Muhlenberg Education Association.

Joan was a 12 year member of the Muhlenberg School Board and served as its president and treasurer from 1993-2005.

She was honored as the Rotarian Women of the Year in recognition of her community service.

Joan is a member of the Muhlenberg High School Hall of Fame.

Surviving are her three children: Dr. Jerome T., husband of Chuyen B. (Nguyen) Kochinsky of Winchester, Virginia; Kevin G., husband of Melissa A. (Long) Kochinsky of Muhlenberg Park; Kim E., (Kochinsky), wife of James R. May of Riverview Park.

Other survivors include a sister Jacqueline A. (Boyle), wife of John A. Rusnock of Riverview Park and eight grandchildren: James, Thomas and Kaitlin May; Emily and Kevin Kochinsky and Hannah, Brooke and Jerome Kochinsky.

A visitation will be held Thursday evening, 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 am in Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township.
