Joan M. Eitzel, age 67, of Wilmington, DE passed away on January 17th, 2023 in Boston, MA.
Joan was born and raised in Wilmington, DE and graduated from the University of Delaware. After a career in the pharmaceutical industry, Joan retired in 2018 from Sanofi, a pharmaceutical company based in Paris, France, working as a Site Support Director in their department of Quality in Bridgewater, NJ. Joan traveled the world for her profession. As the news of her unexpected passing was shared, messages of sadness and love poured in showing the impact Joan had in the lives of her family and friends. Joan was a kind and giving person who believed in the handwritten word as one of the most personal forms for expressing love and friendship and never missed the opportunity to send letters, cards or mementos recognizing life's events, big and small. She was an avid and accomplished amateur photographer often recognized for capturing beautiful images of birds and nature. Joan was a student of history as well as science and in her retirement took the time to research those events that interested her the most. Joan was an avid reader and maintained relationships in many communities focused on their shared appreciation for the works of those such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Emily Dickinson, and Jane Austen.
Joan is predeceased by her father, Robert Eitzel who passed away in 2003, and her mother, Anna Eitzel (Gdowik) who passed away in 1991. Joan will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Joan wished for very modest final arrangements to be buried next to her parents in Reading, PA without any services.
In her final letter, Joan made intentions to give to a historical society "so that others may learn". In memory of Joan, a donation is suggested to your local historical society or museum of your choosing.
