Joan A. Coda

Joan A. Coda, age 82, of Shillington, passed away on June 14, 2014 in Greenfield Senior Living of Perkiomen Valley.

She was the wife of the late Anthony J. Coda, whom she married on September 28, 1963.

Born in Frackville, PA she was the daughter of the late Julius and Anna (Gallagher) Scripko.

She was a 1949 graduate of Hazelton High School. After graduating from high school, Joan moved to Reading, PA to pursue her nursing degree. She went into training at St. Joseph's Hospital and graduated as a registered nurse in 1951.

Joan achieved an illustrious career as a nurse that spanned close to 50 years. Highly admired and respected by physicians and colleagues alike, Joan initially focused on caring for her patients in a med surg environment. The last 14 years of her career was focused on long term care. Her hands-on approach and passion for those with Alzheimer's and dementia made a lasting impression upon those she cared for and those she taught.

Joan gave frequently to a variety of charities and was an avid animal lover. Her love of the world around her was palpable and felt by everyone for which she came in contact.

Special recognition to Joan's "angels"; the team at Greenfield of Perkiomen Valley. Although too short, her life at the community was blessed by her new family that impacted her very deeply.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie Coda, Harleysville. Also surviving are her sister, Anne Scripko, Allentown; her nephew, Gregory, husband of Patricia Lebo and their children: Amanda Lebo and Christopher Lebo. her brother-in-law, John Lebo also survives her.

Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Coda, her brother, Albert Scripko and her sister-in-law, Virginia Lebo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in Gethsemane Cemetery Chapel, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale. Entombment will be in the adjoining Mausoleum.
