Joan Delores (Eisenhower) Cassidy, 87, died April 24, 2016 after a long illness, at St. Joseph's Villa, Flourtown, PA surrounded by her beloved family. She was the wife of Dr. William J. Cassidy who died January 14, 1984. They were married for 32 years. Born in Reading, PA on July 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Eisenhower and Dorothy (Bettler) Eisenhower. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart RomanCatholic Church in West Reading, PA.
Joan was a graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School, Reading, PA and a graduate of Chestnut Hill College, Chestnut Hill, PA, with a degree in biology. She was employed as a medical lab technician at St Joseph's Hospital, Reading.
Joan is survived by two sons, William J. Cassidy, Jr., husband of Marsha J. Cassidy of Lancaster, PA, and Kevin R. Cassidy, husband of Ann Marie Cassidy of Spring City, PA, and five daughters, Mary Katherine Downs of VA, Eileen M., wife of Lee Casaccio of St David's, PA, Maureen A., wife of John Wallin of Reading, PA, Joan L. Cassidy, SSJ, of Philadelphia, PA, and Anne P., wife of Donald Connor of Sinking Spring, PA.
Joan is also survived by seventeen grandchildren: Michael Cirulli, Kevin Cirulli, Katherine Cirulli Prendergast, Maurissa Brown, Jacqueline Cassidy Nolan, William J. Cassidy, III, Lee William Casaccio, Laura Casaccio, Megan Wallin Wentzel, Erin Wallin, Cara Wallin, Samantha Cassidy, Kevin Cassidy, Brandon Connor, Kailie Connor, Ella Connor and Ava Connor. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
The importance of a strong and loving family was paramount to Joan and she fostered that legacy during her lifetime. She was guided always by her faith and was an example to her family of God's grace and care, gently guiding and encouraging those around her. She will be fondly remembered by her family for her unconditional love and unfailing faith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 10 a.m. in St Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2810, St. Albans Dr., Whitfield, with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Viewings will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading.
