Services for Jeffrey L. Hiester, 44, Spring Township, will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading.

Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township.

Hiester, a veteran state trooper, apparently shot and killed himself July 7 inside the Troop L headquarters along Kenhorst Boulevard, officials said.

Hiester was found inside a closed garage bay door on the west side of the building about 10 a.m., officials said.

He was the husband of Alison M. (Moyer) Hiester.

Born in Reading, he was a son of Kenneth and Patricia (Miller) Hiester, Brecknock Township.

Hiester enlisted in 1983, then served in the Philadelphia and Jonestown stations before coming to Reading in 1987. He worked in the patrol and criminal investigations divisions and administered polygraph tests, officials said. He most recently worked in the supply room.

Hiester was a 1978 graduate of Wyomissing High School and a 1982 graduate of Shippensburg State College. He was a 1983 graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, Hershey.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Shillington, where he was a former councilman.

Hiester was a past vice president of the Spring Township Athletic Association.

He was a baseball umpire for Elite Championship Tournament Baseball.

At Wyomissing, Hiester was a varsity baseball and football player and was most valuable player of the baseball team.

He was a former baseball player for the American Legion team in Shillington.

Hiester is also survived by two daughters, Jenna B. and Jaclyn M. Hiester, both at home.

Other survivors include a brother, Jay A., Brecknock Township; and two sisters, JoAnne E. (Hiester) Lombardo and Jill G. (Hiester) Raab, both of Cumru Township. Friends may call Sunday night from 5 to 9 p.m at the Kuhn Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to "Citizen's Bank" 70 Commerce Drive Wyomissing, Pa 19610. (Trust fund to be set up for daughters).
