Jeannine Fowler Voit, 84, of Reading, passed away November 16, 2013 at ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township.
She was born December 30, 1928 in Kildare, OK to Oscar F. and Alice (Christner) Fowler.
Jeannine graduated from Norman High School and attended the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
In 1948, just shy of graduation, her call to duty led her to become one of the first females from Oklahoma to join the Women's Army Corps – WAC. Following basic training in Camp Lee, VA, she went to the Pentagon where she was chosen to become part of General Eisenhower's staff at Supreme Allied Headquarters in Paris, France. Here she met and married LTC (R) Otto W. Voit, Jr. Discharged from the Army in 1952, she went on to have 5 children and eventually settled in Reading, PA.
Following her divorce, she went back to college to earn her BA in Addiction Studies at Alvernia College. She was employed by Service Access Management as a case worker until her retirement.
Jeannine was an avid volunteer and fundraiser. She was president of the Women's Club of Muhlenberg and also Berks County Federation of Women's Clubs. She was also active in the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary. Above all, she was most proud of her role as Mom.
Jeannine is preceded in death by her parents, brother Oscar Fowler and sister Hazel Nelson.
She is survived by her beloved brother Roger Fowler of Oklahoma City, OK and his family.
Also surviving are her five children: Karen A., wife of Phil A. Eyrich of Avon, CO; Cheryl V., wife of Jeffrey L. Kissling of York, PA; Otto W., III, husband of Sheryl K. Voit of Temple; Roger F. Voit of Muhlenberg Township and Alyssa J. Voit of Reading; her five grandchildren: J.W. Mendon Kissling, Erin F. Kissling, Parker J. Eyrich, Wilhelm F. Eyrich, Emily A. Eyrich and Henry D. Eyrich, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Church of the Savior, 5600 N.W. 63rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. (Odd Fellows) Cemetery.
Following services at the Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Home, Jeannine will make a final road-trip with her children to the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Norman, OK, where she will rest with her parents and family.
