Jeanne C. Smith

Jeanne C. Smith, 90, formerly of West Reading and Wyomissing, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 in the care of Phoebe Berks where she resided. She was the widow of George W. Smith, who passed away in 2001.

Born in Philadelphia to the late Ralph and Ellen (Foley) Cilley, Jeanne graduated from Ursinus College in 1952. Once she and George moved to the Reading area, Jeanne began teaching Health and Physical Education at the West Reading School District. She retired in 1965.

Jeanne was a longtime and much beloved member of West Lawn United Methodist Church. She volunteered actively throughout her life for many different organizations. These included serving on the Easton Area PTA, helping her church's choir, and working at the Reading Hospital Blood Donor center. She worked for years volunteering at Cumru and Mifflin Park Elementary schools where all of the students she worked with knew her only as "Grammy."

She is survived by her son, Daniel G. Smith, husband of Karen S. Smith, of Reading and her grandson Quentin, her step son David R. Smith, husband of Debbie Smith of Reading and her grandchildren, Michael, Jamie, Heather, and seven great grandchildren, J. Henry, Koa, Wesley, Anna, Catalina, Lucy, and Hazel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeanne's memory may be offered to West Lawn UMC at address below.

Memorial services for Jeanne will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 12:00 PM at West Lawn UMC, 15 Woodside Ave, Reading, PA 19609. Friends are welcome to gather from 11:30 until the start of services. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements.
