Jean Cooke, 82, of Leesport, passed away in her residence surrounded by her loving family & friends.
She was the wife of the late Charles Cooke for 50 years.
Jean was born in Centerport, PA to her parents Aaron and May (Werley) Gundrum. She went on to receive a full scholarship for nursing school at Montgomery Hospital and became a registered nurse. Then, Jean had a second career as an award-winning salesperson for Avon for more than 40 years.
Jean is survived by her children, Audrey Rothermel and Dale Cooke. Audrey is married to Martin Rothermel, and their children are Nathan and Lauren Rothermel; and her son, Dale is married to Lily.
Jean grew up on a farm in Fleetwood with her large family including her eight siblings. Her siblings were her older brothers Robert ("Bobby") who married Thelma, William ("Bill") who married Mary, George who married Darlene, and Norman who married Lorraine. Jean's twin sister Jane married Dennis Humbert, and Jean's youngest sister Ruth Ann married Nelson Eyer.
She also had a half-brother Aaron ("Bud") Gundrum who married Arlene and Jean's half-sister Fern who married Paul L. Strausser. Fern was predeceased by her first husband George Stein.
As a child, Jean and her sister Jane were locally famous as the only twins born in Centerport. She will be missed dearly by her family and all those who knew her. Her loving, caring, sharing nature was a great memory many will have of her. She asked that in lieu of donations people should do a kind deed for someone in need.
