Jean Louise (Hagenman) Shaw, 70, of Muhlenberg Township, died September 18, 2011 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
She was the wife of Charles G. Shaw, Jr. They would have celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on September 27th.
Jean was predeceased by her first husband, Robert C. Young, who died March 12, 1966.
Born in Reading, PA on April 1, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Reis D. and Anna C. (Thren) Hagenman.
She was a 1959 graduate of Muhlenberg High School and a 1962 graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing.
Jean was a registered nurse for 30 years, working at both the Wyomissing Lodge, Reading and Berks Heim, Bern Township.
She was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.
Jean enjoyed casinos, puzzles and sewing.
She is also survived by six children: Lori J. Young of Collingswood, NJ; Denise Karowski of Mansfield, TX; Kevin R. Young of Reading; Dawn, wife of Joe Ryan of Tallahassee, FL; Robert C Young of North Kingstown, RI and Kristen M., wife of Nathan Santos of Johnstown, PA.
In addition to her six children, Jean and her husband helped to raise 32 foster children.
Jean is also survived by five siblings: Agnes E. (Hagenman), wife of Salvador Sanguinito of Apalachin, NY; Terry J. Hagenman of Leesport, PA; Patricia D. (Hagenman), wife of Robert A. Pacharis of Reading, PA; Scott D., husband of Cheryl Hagenman of Mohnton, PA and Daniel C., husband of Lisa Hagenman of Voorhees, NJ.
There are also 14 grandchildren surviving and one great granddaughter.
She is also survived by her cats; Charlie and Patches.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 am in Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Hyde Park. Viewings will be held Wednesday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale and Thursday morning 9:00 am until time of Mass in the Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
