Jean Edgar Houck

Jean Edgar Houck, 83, formerly of Muhlenberg Township died July 8, 2014 in ManorCare Health Services, Spring Township.

He was the husband of Christine Fisher (Heck) Houck, whom he married April 2, 1993.

Born April 9, 1931 in West Reading, he was a son of the late Ralph and Margaret M. (Jackson) Houck.

Jean was employed as a diesel mechanic with International Harvester, Reading, for over 20 years. Subsequently, he was the owner/operator of Houck Ambulance Service, Reading for 24 years, retiring March 1, 1995. After retiring, he was employed as a wheelchair ambulance driver for the City of Reading Fire Department for a number of years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Jean was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton.

He was past President of Muhlenberg Lions Club, a member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary of Muhlenberg Township, a member of Goodwill Fire Company and Riverside Beneficial Associations.

In addition to his wife, surviving are his seven children: Susan (Houck), wife of Robert Jacoby of Bern Township; James Houck of Florida; Connie (Houck), wife of Earl "Pete" Hillbish of Temple; Nancy (Houck), wife of John Kase of Stevens, Lancaster County; Cheryl Houck of Reading; Chad, husband of Kate (Simmons) Steward of Exeter Township and Amy (Steward), wife of John Koch IV of Richmond Township.

There are also twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren surviving.

Jean was predeceased by his two brothers, R. David Houck and Robert Houck.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Good Shepherd UCC, 170 Tuckerton Road, Reading (Muhlenberg Township), PA 19605. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, in the church. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
