Jean M. (Cardone) Gatz, 81, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born in Pittston, PA, to the late Michael and Jennie (DeAngelo) Cardone. She lived and raised her family in Bristol, and Birdsboro before retiring to Robesonia. Jean graduated from Pittston HS in 1951 and Berks Vocational Technical Nursing School in 1977.
Jean was involved in the Head Start program in the 1970's. She worked at Pennhurst State Hospital and Berks Heim Nursing Home, retiring in 2001.
During her active years Jean was involved in local politics, American Cancer Society, Berks Heim Nursing Assoc. and the Women's Society at Immaculate Conception Church. Jean loved spending time with her family, she enjoyed traveling, reading, bingo, painting pottery and trips to Atlantic City.
Jean in survived by her children; Susan, wife of Michael Edmonds; Jean Molnar; and Thomas husband of Christine Gatz, She was predeceased by her son David Gatz and his wife Debra. She is also survived by her former husband, David T. Gatz, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her sisters Mary Shedlock, Anita Alpaugh and Thomasina Cardone, and her brother John Cardone also survive her.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers that have given kindness and support to Jean throughout her long battle with her illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 12 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Birdsboro with a viewing held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Contributions, in Jean's memory, may be made to: Compassionate Care Hospice, 1513 Cedar Cliff Drive, Suite 100, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Edward J.
